About Hunter Armstrong

Joseph Hunter Armstrong (born January 24, 2001) is an American competitive swimmer who has made a name for himself on both the national and international stages. He is the current world record holder in the long course 50-meter backstroke and holds an Olympic gold medal from the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Olympic Gold and World Record

In Tokyo, Armstrong won the gold medal in the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay, setting a new world record in the process. He also won a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke. His world record-breaking performance in the 50-meter backstroke was achieved at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

College Career and Beyond

After graduating high school, Armstrong joined the University of California, Berkeley's swim team. In 2023, he announced his decision to turn professional and join the Cali Condors pro swim team.
