VILLENEUVE-D'ASCQ, France (AP) — Sami Whitcomb scored 19 points as Australia rebounded from a surprising opening loss in the Olympic women's basketball tournament with a 75-55 victory over Serbia on Tuesday.

Whitcomb made 5 of 9 3-pointers for Australia, which lost to Belgium 87-82 in its opener. Ezi Magbegor added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Marianna Tolo had 12 points for Australia.

Serbia (1-1) was led by Jelena Brooks'17 points. Yvonne Anderson added 11 points.

Australia, which is ranked No. 3 in the world, is looking to win its first Olympic medal in women's basketball since taking silver in 2000 and 2004. Serbia is ranked No. 9.

The teams traded baskets in the first half, with Australia nursing a slim lead throughout. Australia took a 10-point lead, 48-38, into the fourth quarter and pulled away for the victory.

Australia will face Japan (1-1) on Thursday. Serbia will face Belgium (1-1) on Wednesday.
