Biden Facing Pressure to End Re-election Campaign

Democratic Leaders and Advisers Urge President to Step Down

Mounting Calls for a New Candidate

Amidst growing criticism and pressure from within his own party, President Joe Biden is reportedly considering ending his re-election campaign. Several close advisers and top Democrats have privately expressed their belief that he is beginning to accept the need to step down.

Disastrous Presidency and Congressional Concerns

The pressure on Biden stems from concerns about his declining popularity and the growing perception that he is not up to the demands of the presidency. A recent poll showed his approval rating hovering at a record low, while his handling of the economy, foreign policy, and the COVID-19 pandemic has been widely criticized.

Congressional Democrats, in particular, are worried that Biden's unpopularity will drag down their own chances in the upcoming midterm elections. They are urging him to reconsider his candidacy and allow the party to field a stronger challenger who can unite the Democratic base and appeal to swing voters.

Technical Deadline for Withdrawal

If Biden does decide to end his campaign, the Democratic Party would technically have until its national convention in the week of August 28th to select a new candidate. The pledged delegates who were originally assigned to Biden would then be free to cast their ballots for a different nominee.

However, the longer Biden remains in the race, the more difficult it will be for the party to unite behind an alternative candidate. With the primaries and caucuses set to begin in early 2024, time is of the essence for the Democrats to find a suitable replacement.
